Bainbridge Island Energy Solutions - Conservation - Efficiency - Renewable Energy

About Us

Bainbridge Island Energy Solutions was formed by Joe and Tammy Deets, a husband and wife living on the island. They believe that solutions to the problems of global warming, national insecurity, and economic uncertainty can be found when individuals and communities are strengthened. Their inspiration originated from a 2003 trip to eastern Tibet, when they saw a photovoltaic module placed outside a nomad’s yak-haired tent. That simple PV system provided the nomads with modest modern comforts, including using an electric blender and lighting.  Struck by the sensible and independent nature of the Tibetan’s choice of energy, they began a journey to find sustainable solutions for themselves and others.

In time they realized that there are a multiplicity of barriers to change.  Frustrated by the difficulties in getting necessary information to make intelligent decisions, they decided to take matters into their own hands.  They organized the first Bainbridge Island Solar Outreach Forum in 2005; bringing in experts to talk about renewable energy and energy efficiency.  The event was well received and they repeated their efforts in 2006.  The interest in the community inspired them to set up a more permanent presence about alternative energy and solutions.  With the support of Mayor Kordonowy and the City of Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge Island Energy Solutions was established.  This energy focused website is one of many vehicles to empower the community.  Joe, Tammy and their young daughter Hanah welcome you to join them in their periodic public gatherings and community events to exchange ideas and implement energy solutions.

Activities

Earth Day ...

On April 21, 2007, over 100 visitors stopped by the Earth Day Energy Central at the Bainbridge Island City Hall to learn about renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable buildings and transportation. There were over ten organizations participating through exhibits and/or presentations. This is the first time in the history of the City of Bainbridge Island to have an energy-focused Earth Day celebration.  The day ended with a special evening conversation about global warming on the personal level. Over 20 people of all ages and walks of life showed up for an engaging conversation.
